Sensor Sizes - Jessica

Explains the difference between FX, DX, and compact camera sensors. Focus on the beginning and the end of the video, in the middle of the video it shows which Nikon cameras are avilable.

Some things to take away:

  • FX: full frame, like the film used in film cameras
  • DX: smaller sensor, but still produces quality images
  • The smaller the sensor size, the lower the image quality. The smaller sensor sizes have a larger depth of field.
  • The sensor size determines the amount of light gathered and the image quality.
The link above has a calculator that can convert any sensor focal length lens to a full frame focal length lens.
